Road trip to the Motor City
I've always loved traveling to new places. I get so excited to explore new things and see a different view. Road trips can always be fun too especially if you do it with someone else. What brings me to Detroit was meeting the most beautiful ray of light in my life. Alex had visited me in DC in February so it was my turn to check out his home. We decided to meet in Ohio, leave my car at a kiss & ride then drive back to Michigan.
I've also never been to Ohio before but we weren't there long enough to get a feel of it. In due time we could. Bless Alex though because when he picked me up in Ohio we drove 20 miles away to a rest stop. Only to realize I left my wallet in my car. So we ended up having to double back..But in his truck he brought Maya for me to meet which is his adorable Pitbull.
This is from our Easter brunch we made together on Sunday before I left. Maya posted up being cute. (Not pictured is her little toenails that Alex had the groomers paint yellow for me, they looked like little jelly beans!)
Thursday we kind of took it easy since we had pretty much drove all day. Went to a nearby bar called Batch where we tried some local beer. I think the most pitiful thing is we got pho later that night & the both of us were to tired to even eat it. We did have a great first night in. One of my favorite things is mornings because I get to wake up next to him. Being long distance makes all the little things, big things. We don't have the luxury to always do that, so when it's shared it's special. We ventured out to my now favorite coffe shop called Astro Coffee.
Yummy in my tummy! Everything about the place I loved. From the teacups, succulents, to the plant drawings.
Spent some of the day checking out city murals. The artwork in Detroit is insane!
How awesome is this?! One of the first things I noticed is how industrial everything is. Yet slightly hipster & clean for a city.
One of the things I'm slowly learning about Alex is how good he is with surprises, which makes my heart swell. We also went to Shinola, I forced him to eat a coney dog in 30 seconds, & had probably one of the best dates ever.
Coffee & shopping? Yes please. Shinola in Midtown.
For our date that night we went to this beautiful restaurant high above the city. I mean literally high above, we took this huge tube to get to the top. It was fun getting to dress up & enjoy celebrating. The view was literally to die for. But the best view was sitting right next to me.
I got to even meet some of his close friends which some of them had babies. Which anyone who knows me knows I love children, babies especially. I'm really looking forward to getting to know everyone that's close in his life.
Mila! Yes, the cheeks were squeeze worthy.
Then Saturday we went to Eastern Market because I have a huge love for farmers markets. The place seriously had about 6 different tents filled with vendors!
Look at those huge carrots!
Also explored a conservatory which was cool because I also love plants. Anything & everything green makes me happy.
Look how pretty!
Sunday was my last day visiting him, which I hate when it comes to an end. I had such a good weekend filled with some many new memories. We spent Easter making breakfast for eachother, *picture above*
Little things happened here & there, but every morning I woke up more happy than the day before. I can't wait to be back in a week. I'm so happy & excited to see what my future holds.
Xo, Alexa.
