Things I've learned since moving to DC
I moved to Georgetown, DC last November at the end of the month for a new job that I took. Moving from the suburbs to such a fast pace city has been quite insane. Here are some things I've learned since living here.
Georgetown Cupcakes are way to hyped up. The top part of the cupcake always seems to pop off & I think they taste okay. Nothing to rave about. I swear on my life they aren't good enough to wait in line for 30 minutes. Go to Baked & wired instead. They have amazing rich coffee & baked goods to die for. Literally one of my favorite spots in Georgetown.
For sure do the Segway tour to see all the moments! Just don't eat shit off one like I did. It's fairly inexpensive & it's a great way to explore everything. Local or tourist. Also don't forget all the awesome museums we have!
Homeless people seem to rule certain streets on corners. I don't really like to socialize with them, half the time I'm out running a quick errand. Helps if you don't look them in the eyes. I can't give money to everyone & that makes me sad. Also learned to always keep my back door/gate locked because they have tried to break in before. We had one homeless man live in the alley next to our house for a month. How exciting!
Architecture here is seriously breath taking. I'm a huge fan of detail & the beauty in the buildings. Even the tiny townhouses have character. You can learn a lot about our history here.
Living in Georgetown has made me feel super pretentious. Which is something I'm not really fond of. Everyone I meet just assumes I live this high class lifestyle in DC, which I guess in a little sense I do. But really I just nanny.
The cost of living is a bit much here. Move to Arlington, it's still just as close. I realized after moving here they charge you for bags at the grocery store which I find weird, even only .5 but still... Whoever remembers the reusable bags?? I make good money with my job but everything here is so insanely expensive. Whole foods controls my life, because whole paycheck.
I've been here for a few months now & honestly it's still pretty hard for me to meet people. Since moving to DC most of my friends back home hate coming out to me. Even though there's so much more to do here. I'm only 40 minutes from home to begin with! So what the hell! I'm just trying to meet lady friends (hit me up) or guys who can stay friend zoned. Guess it's also hard meeting people since I work nonstop. Even though I'm super friendly & outgoing not everyone is here.
Having a snow storm in DC basically means the government shuts down. When we had that huge snow storm a few weeks back I literally couldn't drive my car for a week. I even shoveled it out twice. But we got delays for it being to cold..or barely any snow. Why?
Transportation-
*Smart cars rule DC because you can get the car 2 go. They always just look like milk cartons to me.
*Bikers are dicks that don't care about traffic laws whatsoever.
*If you don't obey four way stop etiquette I hate you.
*I'll still never take the Metro.
*Parking in DC is a nightmare, I've gotten so many tickets from street parking in my own neighborhood alone. Buy the parking ticket for your zone, I swear it'll be worth it. I'm slowly learning the hard way. I've already paid at least $300 in tickets since moving here.
*Also can round abouta not be thing?! I always seem to miss a turn!!
*Having to walk everywhere can be super nice but when it's even somewhat cold out I hate it. I would rather drive .3 miles than to walk it.
*Uber is God, but surplus charges suck.
Quickly thought of at 3:21am, please forgive me for horrible grammer/spelling.
